Don't Miss These Three Apple Headlines From Tuesday

The government shutdown, debt ceiling, and the ailing stock market might be capturing the bulk of the headlines right now, but Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) continues its reign as the most talked-about stock among investors.

Here are three Tuesday headlines worth reading.

National Geographic Using a Camera Phone?

If you want amazing pictures, where do you go? National Geographic, of course! If the camera on the iPhone 5S is good enough to capture stunning images of National Geographic quality, it’s pretty safe to say that it’s one heck of a camera.

That’s exactly what happened. Photographer Jim Richardson posted these images from his Instagram account on the National Geographic website and while photographers will probably argue that the images took a trip through Photoshop, Richardson said, “The color and exposures are amazingly good, the HDR exposure feature does a stunningly good job in touch situations, the panorama feature is nothing short of amazing—seeing a panorama sweeping across the screen in real time is just intoxicating.”

White House Won’t Stop Ban on Samsung Products

Conspiracy theorists unite! U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said that he will not block the International Trade Commission’s ban on certain Samsung (OTC: SSNLF) products found to infringe on Apple patents. Froman said, “After carefully weighing policy considerations, including the impact on consumers and competition, advice from agencies, and information from interested parties, I have decided to allow [the import ban]”

Many will allege favoritism since Froman recently overturned an ITC ruling that would have banned some Apple products from the U.S. because they infringed on certain Samsung patents.

Don’t expect Samsung to put up a fight. The products in question are largely outdated.

iPad Event Scheduled for October 22

Apple isn’t done introducing new products just yet. As all of the rumor mills have speculated, Apple will reportedly hold an event on Tuesday, October 22 where it is expected to announce a redesigned fifth-generation iPad and a second-generation iPad mini.

Although the event wasn’t officially announced by Apple, a source familiar with Apple’s plans told AllThingsD that the iPads along with the new Macbook Pro and OS X Mavericks will be in the spotlight.

There’s no indication of where the event will be held and when Apple was contacted, it declined to comment on the leak.

Disclosure: At the time of this writing, Tim Parker was long Apple.
